Melissa's Disco Barbie Cake
Design Instructions:
My daughter selected a BARBIE DISCO theme for her 5th
birthday. In keeping with the theme I decided on a disco ball cake on
which Barbie was seated on top holding a silver "5".
I was also
fortunate enough to find a dress for barbie which was similar to my daughters
barbie dress up outfit for the day.
CAKE REQUIREMENTS
* Half
circle cake pan/s
* White Mud Cake 2-3 Packets prepared
according to instructions. Depending
on the brand used you
may need only one
packet per half circle but the brand I
used required 1 and a half packets per
half
circle
* Small quantity of strawberry jam
* Ready Made Roll
White "roll out" icing
2-4 packets depending on quantity
in
packets
* One egg white mixed with icing sugar
to
make "glue"
* EDIBLE silver shimmer (I purchased
this
online, if buying from cake supply shop
just make sure it is EDIBLE shimmer)
Prepare two
half circle cakes using a white mud cake packet. Prepare two half circle cakes (half circle tins can be purchased at good
cooking supply outlets and I have also seen them online).
I sliced a
flat section from the top of one of the circles and used this as the bottom
of the cake. I used warmed strawberry jam to join the second circle to the
top.
Roll out enough icing to cover your "ball".
Roll out another
substantial amount of icing and cut into lots of small square "tiles" approx. 2cm x 2cm (can be smaller if you have the patience)
Using the icing
"glue" stick first row of tiles to iced ball. Start with the middle line and then "tile" above and below this line and when needed trim
"tiles"
to fit.
Once completed and dry mix up silver shimmer according to
instructions and
paint the disco ball.
Allow to dry and accessorize to
suit your occasion.
