Construction Party Paper Goods & Invitation Ideas -

Ultimate John Deere Party Pack

Hardhat or Bulldozer Invitation
Cut a simple hardhat or bulldozer shape out of yellow poster board or construction paper and write the party verse shown below:

Building Plan Invitation
Cut a 9 x 12 inch piece of butcher paper from a roll. Using a light blue colored pencil, draw simple squares, rectangles, triangles and half circles stacked in various configurations to resemble a building or skyscraper. (Use your child's wooden blocks!)

Add measurement notations along the sides of each shape as on a real builder's plan. At the bottom, write the verse shown above, but start out with this line: "We're planning lots of building fun at Brendan's Building Party..." Roll up your building plan invitation, secure with an elastic band and hand deliver.

Tape Measure Invitation
Purchase an inexpensive tape measure for each guest. Measure a strip of butcher paper as wide as the tape measure, and as long as is needed to write the party details on it in black marker.

Ask someone to hold the tape measure flat while you tape the paper strip to the back side of the tape measure with a long strip of clear packing tape. Wrap the tape around the tape measure, so the party details are "laminated" onto the tape measure. Roll up and mail in a padded envelope.

Make custom party invitations from your own snapshots. Quick, easy and personal!

Construction Party Cake -

"Big Dig" Cake
Make a chocolate sheet cake and cover with white frosting. Place several mini construction trucks such as a dump truck, bulldozer, cement truck, and excavator on the cake as if they are working.

The dump truck can dump a jelly bean load, the bulldozer can be pushing a pile of crushed oreo cookie "dirt". Add a mountain of chocolate chips and a road made with chocolate sprinkles. Tootsie roll or pretzel logs work great too. For orange traffic cones, use candy corn, or try these traffic cone candles for a really unique touch. Serve your "construction concoction" with a small shovel.

3D Bulldozer

Park this impressive 3D Bulldozer in your party area! Great for free play and a super photo backdrop too.

Go to your local DPW and ask if you can borrow some sawhorses, orange cones, barricades, and other construction paraphernalia. Use yellow construction zone warning tape, orange cones and sawhorses to create your construction site. On the front door hang a sign that reads "Hard Hat Area".

Use a couple of ladders and some 2 x 4s to make temporary staging. Drape it with caution ribbon if you don't want kids climbing it. Order a load of dirt or use an existing one, or a sand box. Fill with assorted construction vehicles for free playtime while kids are arriving or leaving.

Imagine your guests' delight when they spot this flashing traffic light in your living room!

Decorate your party table with a yellow tablecloth striped with black tape. Orange, yellow and black balloons attached to small Tonka trucks make cute table accents.

Hang nylon construction safety flags around the party area or just make them with construction paper and string. Add constructions signs such as "Caution", "Men at work", "Yield", and "Work Zone" throughout.

Here are a couple of great signs to decorate your yard and direct party guests to your work zone:

Construction Party Costumes -

Go to your builder's supply store such as Home Depot and ask for the small orange work aprons for kids or purchase inexpensive nail aprons for each guest. The party child's apron should say his name and "Forman". Dress him in denim overalls, flannel shirt and workboots.

Or, dress him in this authentic
Bob the Builder Costume.

Each guest should have their own personalized apron which says "Construction Crew" next to their name. (The party hostess and the adult helpers should get their own personalized nail aprons, too - very convenient for holding a camera, scissors, markers, tissues, etc.)

As each guest arrives, give them each a yellow plastic hardhat and their own personal tattoo - doesn't every construction worker have one? Then, give each party guest a construction badge so they have their own job title in your construction zone...

I just found these absolutely adorable pink construction hardhats  for the little girls at your "Big Dig" party. They even glow under black light!!!

Construction Party Crafts -

Let kids paint and decorate large appliance boxes with water-based paints to create buildings.

Small woodworking project such as a tool box or dump truck. These are available at hobby shops or home building stores.

Supply guests with round toothpicks and pastel colored mini marshmallows and let them build skyscrapers - which they can eat or take home on a paper plate.

Construction Party Food -

Serve food in mini construction helmet or the back of dump trucks, or even aluminum paint tins.   You could also try this tonka truck bowl.

Ring a dinner bell or blow a whistle and call "Lunch Break!"

Wheelie Good! - Half English muffins and cover with pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese. Cut sliced pepperoni into thin strips and place on muffin to resemble the spokes of a wheel. Place one plum tomato slice in the center where all the strips intersect. Toast in oven till cheese melts.

Vroom Vroom Sandwiches - Use seedless rye bread which has a rounded top (and a volkswagon shape), or trim off top two corners of square type breads to resemble a car. Add plum tomato or cucumber slices for wheels.

A "Wheel" Meal - Macaroni and cheese using pasta wheels.

Brown Bag It - Construction workers are often too busy for fancy lunches, so simply serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, a bag of chips, an apple and a juice box in a brown paper sack.

Skyscraper Sundaes - Let kids "construct" their own tall sundaes, by providing a dump truck full of broken brownie pieces, accompanied by ice cream, nuts, syrup, sprinkles, and whipped cream.

~ Child Party Idea for Construction Party ~

Bricks and Mortar - Give kids an assortment of graham cracker squares - original, chocolate, and cinnamon flavors - along with some peanut butter and let them build their own snack.

Nuts and Bolts Party Mix - Mix together equal parts of raisins, peanuts, goldfish, small pretzels and serve.

Cement Mixer - Make vanilla ice cream shakes and add a few drops of black food coloring to make it a nice gray color. Kids will love the idea that they're drinking wet cement!

Black Food Coloring Recipe:
1 1/2 tsp. Red food coloring
1 1/2 tsp. Green food coloring
5 drops blue food coloring

Traffic Cone Creamsicle - Make the "Cement Mixer" drink, but add more black food coloring and mix in some orange sherbet. Tastes like a creamsicle, but looks like a traffic cone!
