Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin Party

This party is dedicated to the memory of the late Great Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter Extraordinaire.

He is my son Daniel's hero, and he touched the hearts of many with his passion for crocodiles, wildlife, and just life in general.

Steve, we love you.  You will never be forgotten!

May we continue your important mission of saving endangered animals everywhere...

Crocodile Hunter Party Invitations

Look for animal themed craft paper at your local craft store, and envelopes in natural shades of green, brown or tan.  Write something like this:

Crikey!  It's a Crocodile Birthday Party!
Come join John, the Crocodile Hunter, who's turning 6.
Together you'll tame wild crocs, catch squiggly snakes, and maybe some spiders too!

Animal Crackers Invitation – Type up your invitations and slide them into un-opened boxes of animal crackers. Deliver the treat as your invitation!

Spiral Snake Invitation – Select a snake-like paper (or any colored paper will do) and print party information within an eight-inch circle. Cut out the circle, taking care to include all party information.

Starting on the outside of the circle, cut a rounded snake-like head, tapering in and cutting a spiral towards the center of the circle. At the center, cut the spiral to a point to create a tail. (Tip:  Sketch the cutting lines in a circular pattern from outside to inside before cutting.)

Glue a red yarn tongue and two goggle eyes (available at craft stores) on the snake's head. Mail them flat. When the guest lifts the snake's head, the rest of the body will uncurl!

Don't get bogged down in party details! This deluxe party kit for 8 guests makes things easy and fun for all ages!

Crocodile Hunter Party Decorations

Make a cool jungle canopy with palm leaf patterned green gossamer.
Grass mats, palm leaf thatching, camouflage netting, and burlap sacking are all great materials to use to create a jungle habitat.

If outdoors, start with a tent canopy and improvise. If the party is indoors, add a fog machine for a real jungle/rainforest effect! Play jungle animal sounds of rain falling, frogs chirping.

Make a CROC OBSERVATION HUT in which party guests can play - Start with a large cardboard appliance box.  Drape with animal print gossamer, tearing the ends to look ragged. Use palm leaf thatching draped over the top for an authentic look. Surround with silk or real plants or green palm-leaf patterned gossamer.

Use the hut as a play place where the party child can open presents with each guest individually.  It makes a great picture backdrop too!

Here's another great idea for pictures.  Have a few inflatable crocs available when guests arrive.  Take their pictures "wrestling" the croc.  This is a great way to keep kids occupied till all guests arrive, and makes a super party favor or thank-you note.

Crocodile Hunter Party Cakes

Easy Croc Habitat Cake - Cover a simple sheet cake with green-tinted frosting.  If desired, add green-tinted coconut for grass and small plastic trees.  Add a large puddle of blue frosting gel to make a croc watering hole.   Populate it with tiny plastic crocodiles.

Write one of Steve's famous phrases on the cake, such as:  Crikey!  Happy 6th Birthday, Mike! or for a girl:  What a Little Beauty!  Happy 5th Birthday, Amy!

Here's another way to make a Cool Croc Cake!

Snake Cake - Bake a bundt cake and cut it in half. Assemble in a line with halves in opposite directions to form a curvy snake. Frost it green and add M & M spots and life saver eyes.  Use a piece of fruit roll-up with the end cut into a "V" shape for the snake's tongue.

To enhance the presentation, place snake on a cakeboard and add colored chocolate frogs (made with a frog candy mold) all around the snake cake.

Crocodile Hunter Party Food

Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwiches cut into animal shapes with cookie cutters.

Animal Crackers -of course!

Trail Mix

Jungle Juice

2 (12 oz.) cans frozen cranberry juice concentrate
1 1/2 c. orange juice
1 1/2 pts. club soda or seltzer
Orange and lemon slices

Freeze orange and lemon slices in ring of water. Thaw cranberry juice concentrate. Combine with orange juice and chill. Add club soda or seltzer just before serving. Add orange and lemon ice ring for garnish. 18 servings.

Here's where the fun starts... place a piece of dry ice in a sealed plastic container. Punch or cut holes in the container lid. Before serving drop the container into the punch bowl. Very cool effect!

Variation: Smoldering Swamp Water - Float the dry ice container in a green beverage such as 7-UP.

Important: Always use caution when handling dry ice! Use tongs or heavy gloves so it does not touch bare skin as burn will result. Do not put the dry ice directly in the punch; it should NOT be ingested.
