Dinosaur Costume Ideas

Easy home made dinosaur costume will indulge your little boy's jurassic dreams.  He'll want to wear it for playtime and bedtime as well as for parties and trick or treating!

Use this dinosaur costume pattern as is, or change the color scheme to suit your own ideas of the perfect dinosaur.

Try purple and green like Barney, or red and yellow like B.J.

Materials

Dark green sweat suit

Dark green, white and yellow felt

Green foam visor hat

Large googly eyes

White and yellow craft foam

Fabric glue or thread

Fabric batting or shopping bags

This easy dinosaur costume will be all the rage with little boys! Start with a dark green sweat suit. Cut two matching pieces of dark green felt the length desired for the dinosaur tail. It will be bigger or smaller to suit your child’s size. Leave 6 inches or so at the top to attach to the sweat pants. Sew or fabric glue the two pieces together and stuff with batting or plastic shopping bags for fullness.

Cut the yellow craft foam into triangles and staple them side by side to the top edge of the tail. For a more authentic look, make the triangles gradually smaller toward the tip of the tail.

Cut yellow and white felt into scale shapes and glue in an overlay pattern onto front of sweat shirt.

You may also wish to cover the child’s shoes with yellow craft foam cut out to look like dinosaur feet. Here's a template to help you...

Cut a row of dinosaur teeth from a sheet of white craft foam, shaping to fit the front edge of the visor hat. Glue into place. Attach two large googly eyes above teeth and draw two small teardrop shaped slits for the dino’s fire-breathing nostrils.
