Kid Party Cake Ideas With a Twist

Check out these kid party cake ideas with a twist. Nontraditional party cake ideas such as birthday cupcakes, cookie cakes, and dirt cake in a sandpail.

Birthday Cupcakes

cupcake
Instead of the traditional birthday cake, try baking a batch of birthday cupcakes which party guests can frost and decorate.

Group the number of cupcakes which corresponds to the birthday child's age on a plate, insert candles, and you have a non-traditional birthday cake!

Balloon Bunch Cupcakes

Balloon Bunch Cupcakes are a perfect example of this kid party cake alternative.  Here's how:

Frost at least a dozen cupcakes in assorted vibrant colors of red, blue, green and yellow. You'll want at least one for each party guest.

Make a cakeboard with sky blue paper.   Tape a length of colorful curling ribbon to each cupcake.  Tie the ribbons together and curl to finish your balloon bunch.

The FamilyFun site has a picture of these finished balloon bunch cupcakes.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake

1 package chocolate chip cookie dough
vanilla or chocolate frosting

Roll out cookie dough and press into greased 12 inch pizza pan or onto round pizza stone. Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool and remove from pan. Decorate with frosting. Use frosting to anchor candles. Cut into wedges with pizza cutter and serve.
