~ Pumpkin Decorating Ideas ~
Tyler's "BOO-F-O" Spaceship Pumpkin - Purchase an aluminum serving tray and bring it with you when
you buy your pumpkin. The pumpkin must fit snugly inside, leaving a 4
inch border to make the UFO shape. Out
of this world!!!
Cut a large central circle from the
tray to fit the pumpkin into. Leave a 4 inch border all around the
tray. Make 1/2 inch cuts every 3 inches all around the inner tray
circle.
Clean out the pumpkin seeds and pulp and cut several small round
windows along the upper part as shown. Place the tray over the pumpkin
below the windows, bending up the 1/2 inch cuts against the side. Secure
with colorful pushpins.
Twist two lengths of wire coat hangers around a 1
inch dowel to get the shape shown and paint them silver. When dry, push
them into either side of the pumpkin for antennae.
The top
hatch of our wacky spaceship is a vegetable steamer!
Aliens were made from assorted gourds with marble eyes and pipe cleaner antennae hotglued into place.
Orbiting Earth Pumpkin -
This pumpkin decorating idea starts with a nice round pumpkin (of course!) about the size of a planet earth globe. Paint it a nice deep shade of blue. Using the globe as a guide, paint the continents green.If you need more help with this, place a large piece of tissue paper over the globe and trace the outlines of the land masses. Then drape the tissue paper over the pumpkin and secure with masking tape.
Make holes along the outlines with a small nail. Remove the paper and draw the outline directly on the pumpkin and fill in with green paint.
Attach a child's small toy spaceship (ours was made with Legos) to a piece of stiff wire (a coat hanger will do). Push the other end into the pumpkin. The spaceship is now orbiting your planet earth!
