Race Car Birthday Party Invitations
Race Car Speedway
Invitation - Fold a piece of colorful cardstock in half. Across the
bottom of the front of the card, cut a wavy line with a sharp craft knife. Next,
find a race car picture measuring about 1"x3". You can cut from magazines or
find one on the internet. Glue it to a piece of card stock and trim.
Punch a small hole in the middle of the car just big enough to push a
brad fastener through. (You could hot glue it to the back as well). Push the
brad with car attached through the slit on the card and open the metal ends.
Kids will have fun "racing" their car along the wavy speedway!

Race Car Birthday Party
Decorations
This is a
party best done outside, so kids can race and play car-related games. Line your
driveway with orange traffic cones, and hang flying pennant and checkered flags
wherever possible.
Make a big banner like this one that says "Welcome Race Fans" and hang it on the front door.
Mark off an area of the yard
where kids will be racing their home made race cars (more on this under Games
section). You might let your grass grow, then mow a large figure eight to mark
off the speedway. Or, use lawn paint to make your race track.
Add hay bales and old tires
for authenticity and another sign that says "David’s (your child’s name) Speedway".
Make some homemade signs such as "Keep Right", "No Passing", and
"Caution", attach to wooden poles and place strategically around the speedway.
Designate a starting line and finish line with traffic cones and caution tape.
Indoor
decorations start with flying pennant and checkered flags hung over the party table,
which is covered with checkered flag tablecover and skirting. Race car cutouts
look great on the walls, as do your home made traffic signs. Hang an inflatable stock car and add this awesome traffic light to complete your decor.
Have each party guest pose with this
winner's trophy standee. Makes a great memento of their day at the races.

Cakes
Racetrack Cake -
Prepare a cake board
and bake two round cake layers. When cool, cut a small
semi-circular piece from one of the cakes and fit the two layers together side
by side on the cake board. Place a small bowl in the center of each cake and
sprinkle chocolate cookie crumbs around it to create the racetrack.
Remove the
bowls and sprinkle green sugar sprinkles onto the circles left by the bowls.
Press more sprinkles onto the sides of the cake to resemble grass. (You can also
use green-tinted coconut instead of sprinkles)
Pipe a white frosting border around
the edge of the cake. Add white Good and Plenty candies along the track for the
dotted line. Place colorful
Hot Wheels race cars on the
track and a couple of checkered flags on toothpicks at the starting line.
Traffic cone candles complete the look.

Race Car Birthday Party Games
While guests are arriving, have an area set up
where kids can race small cars on this cool Nascar
Racetrack.
As each child arrives, direct them to the Racers Check-In Table to get their
Pit Passes. These personalized Hot Wheels
bag tags make super pit
passes!
Give each party
guest their own home
made kid race car made from a box. Click the
link to learn how.
The Main
Event is the race around your home made race
track. Call it "David's Grand Prix" (use your child's name of
course). An adult should organize the race or races around your home made
track. Explain the meanings of the flags used during a real Nascar race
using this official Nascar 7-flag
set.
When guests are lined up at
the starting line, give any rules of the race and how many laps around they'll
be running. When all are ready, call "Ladies and Gentlemen, start your
engines!". Give them the green flag to GO and watch 'em
race!
Every party guest gets a
silver trophy when they complete the race course.
After the
big race, kids can
then take their race cars to different stations as follows:
Detailing Center - While kids are waiting for
racetime they can go to the "Detailing Center" to decorate and personalize
their cars. You provide foam letters, numbers, markers, flags, and
stickers to personalize their cars.
Tune-up Area - Provide play tools to make last-minute adjustments to race cars.
Tire Changing Area - Provide extra
plastic or paper plates in various colors. Kids can just take out the
brads holding each wheel in place to change their tires.
Filling Station - Make
a "gas pump" from a box, complete with a length of old garden hose or rope to
pump their gas.
Build and Design Race Cars - When it's time to wind
down from the racing excitement, provide a craft table with a race car craft kit for each guest. When kids are done creating, they can
practice racing them across the floor.
