Race Car Game Ideas

Race car game ideas and crafts for a race car birthday party, Nascar party, or just for racing fun.

Little Nascar and Jeff Gordon fans will enjoy these fun race car themed games.

While guests are arriving, have an area set up where kids can race small cars on this cool Nascar Racetrack.

Hot Wheels Tire Launcher Competition  - This race car game is best played outdoors.  Let two guests at a time take turns launching tires with this fun Hot Wheels tire launcher.   Have an adult measure the distance of their launches.  The player with the longest launch gets to stay in the game; the other player is eliminated.  Keep running play-offs until there is only one player left - the winner!

Balloon Racers Event  - Each guest gets a balloon racer.  Hold races to see which player's race car goes the farthest.

Cars in a Jar - Fill a large plastic jar or container with Hot Wheels Cars. Upon arrival, have each guest write their guess of how many cars are in the jar.  The guest who comes closest to the true amount wins the jar of cars.

Suit Up Relay  - Provide two sets of racing uniforms, boots, sunglasses and helmet for this fun relay race car game.  Place each set on a chair across the room, or about twenty paces away from the players if outside.

At the starting signal, the first child on each team runs to the chair, puts on the helmet, sunglasses, uniform and boots, then sits on the chair and says "Vroom Vroom, I'm ready to race!" They then take all the items off and run back to tag the next person in line. Each person repeats these actions until all have had a turn. The team who finishes first is the winner.

Pin the Wheel on the Car - Enlarge a race car picture from a child's coloring book or off the internet.  Glue to a posterboard.  Circle one of the wheels with marker to show where players must pin their wheel on.

Give each player a paper plate with masking tape on the back and (after blindfolding and 3 spins) direct them to "pin the wheel on the car".  Player coming closest to the designated area wins.

Make Personalized Foam License Plates - Easy craft with only a few materials needed:

*pre-cut rectangular piece of foam with the four corners rounded
*pre-cut foam frame piece with four corners rounded
*foam letters and numbers
*markers, stickers, glitter to decorate
*craft glue

Show kids how to glue the foam frame piece on top of the rectangular license plate piece.  Let them personalize their license plates with their name, favorite number, markers, stickers and glitter.

Stolen Car Hunt - Hide a treasure box filled with toy cars somewhere in your house or yard.  Place a large toy "stolen" car on top of the treasure box.  Tell players that a car was stolen and is hidden somewhere in the party area.

Direct kids to find the stolen car by using car-related clues.  Each clue should lead them to the next clue.  When the stolen car is found, kids each get to pick a toy from the treasure box. Another great race car game idea!

Red Light Green Light - This race car game should be played with kids wearing their  home made kid race cars.  Before the party, make a set of "STOP" and "GO" signs to signal the children.

Line party guests up on one side of the yard with an adult leader at the other end. When the "GO" sign is raised the children move forward toward the leader. When the "STOP" sign is raised children must stop their cars in their tracks. Players who are spotted in motion by the leader must return to the starting line.  The first player to reach the adult leader, or cross the "Finish Line" wins.

Build and Design Race Cars - Provide a craft table with a
race car craft kit for each guest.  When kids are done creating, they can practice racing them across the floor.

Car Collage - Another fun race car craft idea is a car collage.  Supply car-themed magazines such as Motor Trend, etc. and let guests cut out car pictures to make their own personal collage.

Every party guest gets a
silver trophy for participation in your race car games.
