Frog Balloon Invitation

Inflate a green latex balloon with air. With a black permanent marker, draw large round eyes and a wide mouth with a tongue flicking out to look like a frog. Perhaps add webbed feet too. Write party details on the "belly" of the frog. Deflate and mail to guests in a green envelope, along with this note:

While jesting with his lady fair,
Shrek blew up a fat green frog with air,
You must do the same - don't hesitate,
For Shrektacular party info, please INFLATE!

Magic Mirror Invitation

On the cover, make a colorful border like the edge of a mirror. Glue a piece of aluminum foil in the center for the mirror. Write party details backwards inside the card so guests must hold the card up to a mirror to read them.

Onion Bulb Invitation

Fold a piece of off-white construction paper in half. With the fold at the bottom, cut in the shape of an onion, wide at the bottom and tapering a little at the top. Write party details inside.

Frost the entire cake with green-tinted frosting and sprinkle with crushed Oreo cookie crumbs. Add some small Shrek figures  and gummy worms and bugs to represent the swamp. The real surprise comes when you cut into the cake, and the green "swamp scum" spills out!

"One True Love" Mirror Cake
Bake a 9 x 12 inch rectangular cake and frost it white or a pastel color. Place a hand mirror on the cake facing up. This represents the magic mirror that Lord Farquaard used to choose his one true love. Surround it with small plastic Shrek figures and candles so they are reflected in the mirror.

Shrek Birthday Party Decorations -

Start with deep green and purple - colors of royalty - balloons in bunches around the party area. Attach this monster-sized Shrek mylar balloon to the party child's chair.

If you have the time, make a few balloon animals like when Shrek blew up the frog for Fiona and Fiona blew up the snake for Shrek. Or, try this Twist Balloon Animal Kit with air pump and book. Mini tiki torches are a nice touch if your party will be outdoors.

Make colorful flag banners to string across the party area by attaching paper triangles to a ribbon or string. Use a green tablecloth, scattered with gummy worms and bugs.

Make a large poster which says "Welcome to the Land of Far Far Away" and put it on your front door. Other cute posters would be Shrek and Fiona's wedding carriage shaped like an onion bulb or other fairytale characters you remember from the movie, such as Pinocchio, the Gingerbread Man, Three Blind Mice...

Make a stand-up of Shrek or other characters and take polaroids of guests. Paint large appliance boxes to resemble a castle for guests to play in and pose in front of.

Have the party child dress as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey or Gingy as shown here.

For Shrek, wear a white t-shirt, and belt around the waist with an adult's wide brown belt, or make a sash from a length of brown fabric. A little padding added to the tummy area would make your Shrek look more authentic. A short brown vest can be made from a brown paper grocery bag and tied at the top with a shoelace.
