Shrek Party Games
For Shrektacular Fun!

Shrek & Donkey

Fourteen Shrek party games to celebrate
this fun fractured fairytale!

~ Shrek Party Games ~

Start your Shrek party off right with an icebreaker activity...

Decorate A Shrektacular Birthday Banner - Purchase a large piece of white butcher paper from your local arts and crafts store. At the top of the banner, write " Happy Birthday Shrektacular", the party child's name and the date.

Mount the paper on a wall within easy reach of your guests, or on the floor if you have enough space. Provide a variety of crayons and waterproof markers for kids to sign their names and perhaps a special message to the party child.

Encourage them to make a Shrek-related drawing too. After the party, keep it as a birthday memento, or take a close-up picture and add it to your memory album.

Shrek Donkey Pin the Tail on "Donkey" - Thanks to that lovable character "Donkey", this one of our Shrek party games is a natural! Mount your Donkey poster on the wall and place a piece of tape on the back of each tail. Blindfold each child, spin them around, and point them toward the poster. The child who pins Donkey's tail closest to the designated spot, is the winner!

Shrek Says - Played like "Simon Says"... Children stand in a group in front of the leader. The leader says, "Shrek says, ‘Do this,'" as she taps her head, claps her hands, turns around, etc. The children must follow the leader's actions, but only if she begins with "Shrek says..." If the leader just says "Do this," the children must do nothing. If a child makes a mistake, he is out. The last child "in" is the winner.

Puss in Boots Toss - Toss kitty beanie babies into large boots for points.

**Easy Shrek Party Games for Little Ones**

Donkey Donkey Dragon - Played like "Duck Duck Goose"... Gather your guests to sit in a circle and let the party child begin as the "Dragon". He/she walks around the circle tapping each child lightly on the head, saying "Donkey" with each tap. At any time, the party child can choose the next person to be the Dragon, by saying "Dragon" when tapping that person on the head.

That child gets up and chases the birthday child around the circle. If the new Dragon does not tag the birthday child before he/she makes it all the way around the circle and sits in the open spot, then the new Dragon becomes "it." If the new Dragon tags the birthday child, then the birthday child remains "it" for the next round and the game continues.

Feed the Ogre - Draw the face of Shrek on a piece of heavy cardboard. Cut out the mouth area to form a large gaping hole. Prop the ogre against a chair or other support. Have guests stand behind a line and "feed" the Shrek by throwing bean bags, rolled socks, or even dog chew toys (which resemble food) into the open mouth.
Variation: Feed "Donkey"

Don't Fall in the Moat - Have a cassette player handy to play some fun upbeat children's tunes. Tape a length of wrapping paper or plastic tablecloth folded in half on the floor. This is the "moat".

Guests line up on one side of the moat and as the music is played they walk back and forth over the moat. When the music stops, any players who have fallen in the moat are eliminated. The last player to escape the moat is the winner.

**Shrek Party Games Races**

Race to Save Fiona - Set up an obstacle course with whatever you have on hand. For example, have kids maneuver around a course of trees (fairytale forest), walk over the bridge to the castle (board laid across some old tires), crawl through the secret tunnel (box with both ends cut out), etc.

At the end of the obstacle course place a doll or other object representing Fiona. Players must grab the doll and return through the obstacle course in reverse to bring Fiona back to safety. Play with two teams and the first to have all players complete the course - and rescue Fiona - is the winner.

Save the Swamp - Divide your partygoers into two teams, and line them up next to each other. Give the first person in each line a small bucket or cup full of water. About thirty feet away, place an empty cup or bucket for each team.

When you say "GO!," the first person runs down to the empty bucket, pours the water from his or her container into the bucket, and races back to their team with their empty container. The next teammate must then race down to the full bucket and pour the water from the bucket into his or her empty container, and then return it to the next person in line.

Your guests will have fun trying to keep as much water as they can in their buckets. The game ends when each team member has run down and back once. The team with the most swamp water at the end is the winner.

Indoor Variation: Have guests transport rubber frogs and lizards instead of water.

**Shrek Party Games with Balloons**

Fiona Keep-Away - Poor Fiona! Everyone wants to keep her from living "happily ever after" with her beloved Shrek... Form guests into two teams, each forming a circle. Use one or two Fiona mylar balloons or just a plain green or purple balloon - inflated with air, not helium - for each circle. The object of the game is to keep the Fiona balloons from touching the ground. The team to keep the balloons from touching the longest wins.
Variation - If you can't find Fiona mylar, use this
Jumbo Shrek mylar balloon.

Blow up the Bluebird - Fiona blew up a bluebird by hitting a high note. In this game, party guests can use any means possible to explode their own bluebird (balloon). Form guests into two lines facing a trash bag of blue balloons about 20 feet away. (If you're ambitious, you can draw eyes, beaks and wings on each balloon!)

At the starting signal, guests must race to the balloon bag, take one out and pop it as quickly as possible by sitting on it, stepping on it, or any other means. They then race back and tag the next team member in their line. The first team to have every player pop a balloon bluebird is the winner.

**Wackiest Shrek Party Games**

Swamp Scum Stew Eating Contest - This is a pie-eating contest with a Shrek-like twist. Sprinkle a half dozen gummy worms or other candy bugs into a foil pie plate and cover with whipped cream and some green sugar sprinkles. Make the number of bugs the same in each "stew". Tell guests they must eat their swamp scum stew just like Shrek. The first guest to finish their stew is the winner.

*Note: These Shrek party games are designed to be fun, so have an alternate game choice ready for kids who don't wish to eat "swamp scum stew".

Shrek Karioke - Let kids lipsinc to YMCA, Feelings, Stayin' Alive, etc. and give prizes for the best performance, silliest performance, etc. This is one of the easiest and most popular Shrek party games.

Shrek Charades - Place papers with the names of Shrek characters into a container. Each party guest must draw out a name and act it out without using words. Whoever guesses the correct character gets to act out the next character.

Shrek Swamp Slide - Using a "Slip and Slide", make mud in the gathering pool at the starting end of the slide. Spread a layer of mud over the entire surface of the slide. Let kids loose to slide in the swamp. (Idea Credit to Shelley)
