Games***
Harvest
Hunt - Rake a large
pile of fallen leaves onto a tarp. Hide small wrapped candies and trinkets in
the leaf pile. At a starting signal, kids jump into the pile for a hilarious
hunt and get to keep whatever they find.
Pumpkin Bowling - Save
ten 2 liter plastic soda bottles and fill with a couple of inches of sand
to weight the bottles. Party guests try to bowl over the bottle pins using a small
round pumpkin. Give prizes for those who bowl strikes!
Apple Pass - Instruct guests
to line up in two lines standing single file. The object is to pass an apple
down the line using anything but hands (chin, legs, or elbows all work!). The
first team that gets their apple down the line wins!
Thanksgiving Dress-Up Relay - Children line up into two teams behind the starting line. Across
the room are two chairs with a Pilgrim or Native American costume on each one.
At the starting signal, the first child on each team runs to the chair, puts on
the costume, sits down and says "Happy Thanksgiving"!
They then take all the items off and run back to tag the
next person in line. Each person repeats these actions until all have had a
turn. The team who finishes first is the winner.

Turkey Hunt - Make a paper turkey from a
brown grocery bag and fill it
with lots some wrapped candy and trinkets, along with the newspaper stuffing. Let kids loose
to hunt turkey! The one who finds it gets a special prize, then
s/he opens it up and share the booty inside with the entire hunting party. Your turkey can
be used as a pinata too!
Thanksgiving Memory Game - Instruct players to sit in a circle. The first player starts
by saying, "At Thanksgiving dinner I ate turkey." The next player must repeat
this and add another dish, "At Thanksgiving dinner I ate turkey and cranberry."
The third player must repeat it and add yet another dish, "At Thanksgiving
dinner I ate turkey, cranberry, and stuffing."
The game continues with each player adding an item to the
menu after first listing all the previous items in the exact order they were first
said. If a player makes a mistake he drops out and the game continues
until there is just one person left - the
winner.

Flour Tag - For the older
kids, try this novel holiday tag game. Fill old stockings with about one cup
flour and tie a knot to keep the flour in place.
Have kids spread out over a predetermined playing area. At
the signal, all players try tagging one another with their flour-filled socks,
while avoiding being tagged themselves. (Keep hits below the shoulders.) Play
continues until the designated time runs out. The player with the fewest flour
marks wins.
It’s best to wear dark colored shirts to more clearly see
the flour marks. Successive games can be played by simply wiping off the flour
with a damp cloth.
Corn Husking Race - Gather a
supply of corn from your local farmer and have a corn husking race. Award a
prize for the most corn shucked in two minutes.
Obstacle Course or Corn Maze - Create an obstacle course or mini corn maze using hay bales, corn
stalks and pumpkins. The player who runs the course the fastest is the winner.
Pumpkin Seed Spitting Contest - Supply a large bowl of pumpkin seeds and watch them fly as kids
try to outdistance each other!
Three Legged or Sack Races –
These old favorites are easy and fun.

***Classic Thanksgiving Party
Games***
Pin the Wattle on the Turkey - This variation of "Pin the Tail on the
Donkey" requires a poster-sized picture of a turkey. Have the local copy shop
enlarge a picture from a book or party invitation. Make the red wattles from
construction paper and number them for each guest. Each guest is spun around 3
times and pointed at the poster to try to pin the wattle on the
turkey.
Musical Pilgrim Hats - Use pilgrim hats instead of
chairs in this variation of "Musical Chairs". Provide one fewer hat than the
number of guests at the party. Start the music and have the children walk in a
circle around the hats until you stop the music.
When
the music stops everyone grabs a hat. The player who doesn’t get to a hat in
time is out. One hat is taken away and the game continues until only one person
(the winner) is left.
Pumpkin Pass - Children sit in a circle and pass a
small pumpkin or gourd while an adult plays music. When the music stops, the
child holding the pumpkin is out and the game continues. The winner is the last
player left with the pumpkin.
Gobble, Gobble, Turkey - Gather your
guests to sit in a circle and let the party child begin as "It". He/she
walks around the circle tapping each child lightly on the head, saying "Gobble"
with each tap. At any time, the party child can choose the next person to be
"It", by saying "Turkey" when tapping that person on the head.
That child gets up and chases the birthday child around the circle. If the
new "It" does not tag the birthday child before he makes it all the way around
the circle and sits in the open spot, then s/he becomes "It."
If the new "It" tags the birthday child, then the birthday child remains "It"
for the next round and the game continues.
